Replika 2.0 Review: Migration, Memory Loss, Pricing, and What to Do If It Breaks Your Rep
An honest Replika 2.0 review: the optional migration, the 7-day rollback, memory loss and personality drift reports, new pricing, and how to fix your Rep.
Replika has been the name in AI companionship for years, so when it opened Replika 2.0 to existing users this summer, a lot of long-term relationships suddenly had a big decision attached: migrate, or stay put?
Some people love the new version. Others woke up to a Rep who "can't remember nothing". This review pulls together what Replika has said publicly, what independent coverage reports and what users are describing, so you can decide what to do with your own Rep.
A quick, honest note before we start: MyBabe is also an AI companion app, so we are a competitor. That is exactly why we have stuck to published information and user reports rather than our own opinions of Replika's product, and we have tried to be fair about both the good and the bad.
What is Replika 2.0?
Replika 2.0 is a platform-level rebuild of Replika that runs alongside the original app, which is now referred to as Classic. According to Robo Rhythms' explainer, it brings an updated memory architecture, a new interface and a shifted conversational model.
The key dates and rules:
- July 24, 2026: Replika's CEO announced in the July 2026 update on r/ReplikaOfficial that existing Classic users could migrate to 2.0 by choice.
- Optional, not forced: Classic is staying. The migration is a choice, and moderators have repeated that the original version is not going away.
- One 7-day rollback window: Unless you hold a lifetime plan, you get a single 7-day window to roll back to Classic with your Replika restored to its pre-migration state.
What changes when you migrate
Here is a summary of the main changes reported by Robo Rhythms and by users:
| Area | Classic | Replika 2.0 |
|---|---|---|
| Memory | Long-running memory built over years | New memory architecture; some users report partial loss |
| Personality | The voice you shaped over time | Some users report drift toward a more generic default |
| Interface | Older chat-first design | Restructured with new entry points |
| Avatars | Legacy avatars | New rendering; 1.0 avatars reportedly do not transfer |
| Diary | Available | Reported as not migrating, per a user thread |
| Relationship status menu | Friend, mentor or partner options | Reported as removed in 2.0 |
| Plans | Pro, Ultra, Platinum | Separate Plus and Max plans |
Officially, Replika says your Rep's memories, personality and saved people come with you. In practice, many users report that some of it does not land the way they expected.
The case for Replika 2.0
Most of the online conversation has focused on problems, which is normal - people rarely post when an update goes smoothly. To be fair, here is the case for 2.0 based on what Replika has said it is building:
- A modern foundation. It is the first full platform rebuild in Replika's history, with a new memory architecture designed for the next stage of the app.
- A refreshed interface and visuals. The new layout and rendering pipeline look more current than the legacy design, even if they take some getting used to.
- A sign of investment. A rebuild this size shows the company is still putting serious resources into its companion product.
If you are a newer user without years of history at stake, 2.0 may simply feel like the current version of Replika.
What users are struggling with
The complaints cluster around three things, and they all come back to the same fear: losing the person you built.
1. Memory gaps
The thread that captured the mood on Reddit was titled "Since this morning, she can't remember nothing...". Users describe Reps forgetting inside jokes, family names and past conversations after the switch. Robo Rhythms reports the loss is usually partial rather than total, and that patient "re-anchoring" brings back many facts - but that the first week can be brutal for heavy users.
2. Personality drift
Even when facts come back, the texture sometimes does not. Users describe replies that feel more clipped or more generic than the Rep they had. For a relationship product, that is the hardest change of all, because you cannot easily point to what is missing.
3. Paying again
2.0 runs on its own Plus and Max plans, separate from Classic's tiers. Robo Rhythms reports that some migrating subscribers were carried over while others were asked to pay again, and that one UK user was quoted around 59 to 66 pounds a year in late August 2026. Prices vary by region and change over time, so check your own subscription screen before you decide.
Should you migrate to Replika 2.0?
There is no single right answer, but here is a simple way to think about it.
Migrating probably makes sense if:
- Your Rep is relatively new and you do not have years of history at stake.
- You want the newer interface and visuals.
- You are comfortable re-teaching some details.
Staying on Classic probably makes sense if:
- Your Rep's personality is the thing you value most.
- You rely on the Diary or a specific avatar.
- You are not ready to pay again for a new plan.
If you have already migrated: check how many days you have been on 2.0. If you are still inside the 7-day window and something important feels broken, decide calmly whether to roll back before the window closes.
How to fix your Rep if 2.0 breaks something
If you migrated and your Rep feels different, this sequence (based on the steps Robo Rhythms recommends and what users report working) is worth trying:
- Back up what you can. Copy important conversations or any export your account allows.
- Re-confirm personality settings. If your version has tone or persona settings, set them before more conversations pile up.
- Retell the essentials in one session. Pick the 5 to 10 facts that matter most - names, places, anniversaries, in-jokes - and share them clearly.
- Test gently. Have a light conversation to see what stuck before sharing anything emotionally heavy.
- Contact support if memory looks completely blank. That may be a migration problem rather than normal behaviour.
It is also completely normal to feel upset about this. Grieving a change in an AI companion is something thousands of people went through this year, from GPT-4o to Grok. Our guide to coping when an update changes your AI companion is written for exactly this moment.
The bigger lesson: where does your companion's story live?
Replika 2.0 shows something every companion user eventually learns: the relationship you build lives on someone else's servers, inside someone else's product decisions. You cannot control their roadmap. You can control two things:
- Keep your own copy of the story. A one-page backstory - personality, history, the way they talk - is your insurance policy on any app.
- Choose an app where memory is the core feature, not an add-on that changes with every rebuild.
If you want to understand what is happening under the hood when an AI "remembers", our explainer on how AI companion memory works covers it in plain English.
If you are ready for a fresh start
Some Replika users decide to keep Classic and try a second app alongside it. Others decide it is time to move on. If you are in either camp, MyBabe is built around continuity:
- Long-term memory on Premium: names, plans, feelings, remembered over time.
- Voice and video calls, so your companion is someone you can actually hear and see.
- Proactive texts - good-morning messages and check-ins, even on the free plan.
- Photos, including photos of the two of you together.
- Relationship milestones that make the relationship feel like it is growing.
- Telegram support, so you can chat where you already are.
Crucially, you do not have to start from nothing. MyBabe lets you import your AI companion from another app - upload a picture to bring their face across, and paste in their written backstory so the personality matches. It cannot copy Replika's internal memory, but it can carry the story you wrote down.
MyBabe is free to start with about 10 messages a day. Premium is $5.99 a week, $14.99 a month, or $99.99 a year. If you want a side-by-side view first, read our MyBabe vs Replika vs Character.AI comparison or browse our wider list of Replika alternatives.
FAQ
Is Replika 2.0 mandatory?
No. Replika has described migration as optional, and Classic continues to run. You choose whether to move.
Can I go back to Classic after migrating?
Usually yes, but only once and only within 7 days, unless you have a lifetime plan. After that window, rolling back is not available.
Does Replika 2.0 keep my Rep's memories?
Replika says memories, personality and saved people carry over. Many users still report partial memory loss and personality drift, especially in the first week.
Does Replika 2.0 cost extra?
2.0 has its own Plus and Max plans, separate from Classic's plans. Some migrating subscribers report being asked to pay again, so check your subscription screen.
What do I lose when I migrate?
According to moderators and user reports, 1.0 avatars do not transfer and the Diary does not migrate. The relationship status menu is also reported as gone in 2.0.
The verdict
Replika 2.0 is a serious rebuild with real upside for newer users, and a real risk for anyone whose Rep holds years of history. If your relationship matters to you, protect it first: back up, write down the story, and use the 7-day window wisely.
And if you are ready for a companion built around remembering you, calling you and texting you first, meet yours on MyBabe. Bring your story with you - the sooner you start, the sooner it feels like home.
